Why choose VLUK Stagedoor Cheltenham Campus?

VLUK offers more than any other college. For a start, the contact with industry professionals is unprecedented. Add to that the opportunity to perform in a professional theatre every term, the chance to see a large variety of productions, and to meet with actors and technical staff who are working on those productions, and you will start to see exactly why our course is unique. It’s all part of the package with VLUK Stagedoor Cheltenham!

VLUK is accredited by the ESFA, and therefore the Level 3 course is fully funded for 16-19 year olds. This means that eligible students who are accepted onto the course will not have to pay any course fees. There are no added extras – no uniform, no payments for trips, show costumes or equipment. We are committed to ensuring that the VLUK course is entirely inclusive and accessible.

We deliberately keep classes small, which not only means that students get plenty of attention from experienced staff, but that we are able to build the optional elements of the course around the interests, ambitions and skills of our students.

The course structure

At VLUK, we run a Level 3 BTEC Extended Diploma in Performing Arts. It’s equivalent to 3 full A Levels, and will take students on to drama school, university or employment in the future.

The course consists of 13 units over 2 years. These are split into mandatory and optional units. As we are small, we build the course around you, taking into account your interests and ambitions.

Mandatory units are:

  • Investigating Practitioners’ Work
  • Skills and Techniques for Live Performance
  • Group Performance Workshop
  • Performing Arts in the Community
  • Individual Performance Commission
  • Final Live Performance for an Audience
  • Employment Opportunities in the Performing Arts

Optional units include:

  • Variety Performance
  • Singing Technique
  • Movement in Performance
  • Jazz Dance Technique
  • Musical Theatre
  • Theatre for Children
  • Site Specific Performance
  • Classical Theatre
  • Improvisation

You will not find a course anywhere that focuses so closely on you as a performer and an individual. It is the first time I have felt like I was able to be completely myself in an environment where I felt seen, understood and appreciated. It was the best decision I have ever made and I have never felt happier in education. EK – Class of 2021
