We have been accepted to be part of National Theatre Connections 2018. Connections is the National Theatre’s annual festival of new plays for young performers. Each year the Connections team travels the length and breadth of the country to support and encourage the participants – the drama teachers and youth theatre directors who take on the challenge of staging a new play, and the young theatre companies. Each year they are thrilled by the skill, creativity, commitment and passion that go into each production.

Stagedoor Director Jenny had a ball last year working on Extremism by Anders Lustgarten, which was performed at two Gloucestershire schools before transferring to Bristol Old Vic. The experience was phenomenal, with support from professional directors and a weekend working with the playwright. Performing at Bristol Old Vic was a highlight which will no doubt be repeated this year.

First step is to read through the scripts which have been written especially for this project, then to make a choice. Stagedoor students will be involved in this process from the beginning, deciding which script to work with, before rehearsing, being involved with direction and all of the other creative decisions which go into performing a successful piece.

We may even make it to the National Theatre – watch this space!
