Why study with Stagedoor? I can think of lots of reasons. Firstly, we limit the number of students, meaning that every student will get plenty of focus and attention, enabling them to develop their skills as a performer and meet their potential. This also means that we can tailor the course by the interests of the students. The BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma involves 7 core units and 6 options. We have nearly 20 options to choose from, though, and so we aim to select the options our students are most interested in.

The unique thing about Stagedoor, though, is our relationship with the Everyman Theatre, which means that our students will be given opportunities and experience that are simply not on offer anywhere else.

So, what should our first group of students expect in their first term?

Week 2 of Term 1 coincides with the English Touring Theatre’s production of The Weir, Conor McPherson’s multi award-winning play. The Weir has been voted one of the 100 most significant plays of the 20th Century, and has enjoyed rave reviews in the West End and on Broadway. Not only will our students be watching the play, but they will be taking part in a workshop hosted for them by English Touring Theatre.

In Week 3 of Term 1, theatre company Pentabus Theatre Company will be running a workshop for our students before they watch their production of Wolves Are Coming For You in the Everyman’s studio theatre. Pentabus is a touring theatre company who produce their own work, and originally aimed to tour rural counties of the UK in a bus, performing in a wide variety of venues.

Million Dollar Quartet, the “story of how four stars made rock ‘n’ roll history” is playing on the main stage at the Everyman during Week 3 of Term 1, and so our students will be rocking and rolling their way along to see it – yes, two shows in a week – all part of the Stagedoor experience. After the show, our students will be meeting members of the cast for a Q&A.

As well as this, there will be workshops led by industry professionals exploring the process of putting on a show and the world of producing for the West End, and experiences in the community department of the Everyman.

Term 1 finishes with a week long residency hosted by Theatre Temoin, an exciting physical theatre company which specialises in Lecoq technique and is dedicated in bringing new theatre to new audiences.

And that’s just term 1!
