Term 4 has begun and all of our students are focusing on the external units they have to complete as part of their Level 3 BTEC Extended Diploma. For first year students, this means Unit 1 and Unit 3, which takes them through a study of influential theatre practitioners and and a devising project. They’re currently working on Unit 3, for which they have to create an original piece of performance work based on a stimulus set by the exam board – this year, it’s a poem by Dylan Thomas. Second year students are also working on original performance pieces, though unlike the first years, they’re working as individuals – Unit 5 asks them to create a solo performance, again in response to a brief set by the board. These modules, unlike the vast majority of the work we do, will not lead to a public performance, though the stakes are still pretty high for the students as they know that their work will be closely scrutinised by an examiner.

Once the four external units are complete, we will be focusing all of our attention on our summer musical – The Battle of Boat. This will be the first major project that all of our students have worked on together, and will also be the first full-scale musical that Stagedoor Learning has produced. We’re extremely lucky in that we have a team of brilliant professionals supporting us, including Jez Francis, who will be our Musical Director, and Will Owen, who will be our technical manager. We’re also, of course, supported by the Everyman, who will be helping us out with props, costume, box office and front of house. Tickets are selling really fast, so if you plan to join us for the South West Premiere of this beautiful show, you need to be quick! Tickets on sale from the Everyman Box Office.
