This week was Stagedoor half term, but we were hard at work on Thursday rehearsing for the first Stagedoor public performance, which is taking to the stage in the Everyman Studio on Thursday 9th November at 7.45pm.

That’s Show Last Century is a variety show, which will take the audience on a journey through the 20th Century, in music, dance, comedy and drama. The theme for the show was chosen by the cast, and each act has been selected to fit, with each section representing a decade of the 20th Century, introduced by key personality from that decade. Amongst others, expect to see Al Capone, Dame Vera Lynn, Queen Victoria and the Spice Girls! The Stagedoor students explored a wide number of possibilities before settling on the final programme, considering things which were written or produced in each decade, as well as things which are set in each decade. This means that the show is an eclectic mix, including extracts from plays such as Oh What A Lovely War and Shakespeare in Love, and musicals such as Hairspray and Les Miserables, as well as some scenes inspired by familiar TV shows and some pieces of  original work, developed by the company.

Tickets cost just £6 and are available from the Everyman Box Office, either in person or by phone, or by visiting the Everyman website (link below)

offering our students the opportunity to perform regularly in a professional space is absolutely key to our philosophy, but this show is also part of their BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Performing Arts. and whilst the students have been developing and rehearsing their show, they have also been tracking their progress and researching the history of variety shows, ensuring that the show they produce fits with what they have discovered about the genre. In order to meet the needs of the assessment, students are asked to perform in “a variety act”. However, every member of the Stagedoor cast will be taking part in at least 12 separate items, some as a whole company, others in smaller groups, or as individuals, but all of which show off their considerable talents. We have high standards, and expect high levels of focus and commitment from our students, not only does this lead to excellent shows for our audiences, but enables the students to reach the highest levels of assessment in their BTEC units.

The entire group has been working exceptionally hard to ensure that the show is ready for Thursday evening. We’re hoping for a full house – do join us if you can.
